SRM Concrete

ML-DRIVEN OPERATIONS & COST OPTIMIZATION

In the concrete supply industry, margins are razor thin, delivery timing is everything, and the difference between winning and losing a contractor relationship often comes down to who responds fastest. SRM Concrete was facing a threat that went deeper than any single operational problem — they were dealing with three interconnected challenges that were quietly compounding against each other.

On the surface, contractors expected seamless digital ordering and modern customer experience. Beneath that, 8,000+ employees across 500+ plant locations were losing 50+ hours weekly to redundant manual data entry across five disconnected enterprise systems. And underneath both, inventory mismanagement was creating excess costs and stock-outs that threatened the reliability contractors depended on. SRM's leadership recognized what most companies miss — these weren't three separate problems requiring three separate fixes. They were symptoms of a single strategic gap: the absence of a unified technology infrastructure capable of turning operational data into competitive advantage. The opportunity wasn't just to modernize. It was to transform SRM from a traditional concrete company into a technology-enabled market leader that contractors and customers could rely on for seamless communication, consistent availability, and operational precision their competitors simply couldn't match.

ROLE
I served as the strategic AI and technology partner leading SRM Concrete's comprehensive technology transformation — responsible for the overall platform architecture strategy, machine learning implementation, and the integration of five mission-critical enterprise systems into a unified operational ecosystem across three interconnected platforms.

STRATEGIC APPROARCH
The strategic architecture decision that shaped everything else was treating the three platforms — customer mobile application, ML-driven inventory and sales platform, and enterprise intranet — not as separate projects but as a single integrated ecosystem where each platform fed data and capability into the others. The customer-facing iOS/Android platform was designed around the contractor's workflow first — real-time access to 500+ plant locations via geolocation, instant contact routing, service catalogs, and secure account management. The goal was establishing a digital engagement channel that met modern contractor expectations while simultaneously creating the behavioral data foundation the ML layer would need to optimize inventory and sales predictions.

The machine learning platform was architected to do what spreadsheets and phone calls fundamentally cannot — identify demand patterns across 500+ locations simultaneously and translate historical sales data into predictive inventory recommendations that reduce excess stock without creating stock-out risk. This required custom ML algorithms trained on SRM's specific operational data rather than generic forecasting models. The SRM 360 Enterprise Intranet was the operational backbone — integrating ADP, Azure AD, SQL Server, Dynamics GP, and Adobe Sign through RESTful APIs and custom middleware into a single unified workspace. The design principle was eliminating every redundant data entry touchpoint across the 8,000-person organization simultaneously rather than incrementally, creating the kind of step-change efficiency improvement that compounds across every transaction the business processes.

OUTCOME
The three-platform ecosystem delivered measurable transformation across every dimension of SRM Concrete's operations — customer experience, internal efficiency, and financial performance simultaneously. The iOS/Android customer platform achieved 100,000+ downloads with an 8.5-minute average session duration — a behavioral engagement metric that signals contractors weren't just downloading the app, they were integrating it into their daily workflow. The ML-Driven predictive inventory and sales platform reduced excess inventory by 75%+ and delivered $1M+ in annual cost savings — translating machine learning capability directly into bottom-line financial impact across 500+ plant locations.

The unified operational platform (Enterprise Intranet — SRM 360) eliminated 80%+ of manual data entry through automated system synchronization — recovering the 50+ weekly hours per employee previously lost to redundant administrative work across five disconnected systems. Quote turnaround time dropped from 48 hours to under 1 hour with measurably improved accuracy — giving SRM's sales team a speed-to-response advantage that directly impacted contractor relationship quality and win rates. The integrated ecosystem now processes 15,000+ monthly internal transactions with 8,000+ daily active employees averaging 3-hour sessions — an adoption depth that indicates genuine operational integration rather than surface-level technology deployment. The three-platform transformation positioned SRM Concrete as the technology leader in their market — creating competitive differentiation based on both customer experience and operational excellence that traditional competitors relying on phone calls and spreadsheets cannot match.
